10 Cold-weather Dressing Tips for Busy Moms

Scroll down

We get it, Moms. Dressing for the cold weather can be a bit more time-consuming. But it takes just a few simple steps to organize your wardrobe perfectly for fall/winter, making sure that styling yourself each morning becomes fun and easy! Take a look at our favourite dressing tips to make sure you stay warm and stylish all through fall & winter!

1. Layer Up
As anyone who is well-acquainted with cold weather knows, layering is the best way to stay warm during fall/winter. Layer with cozy undershirts, cardigans, tights, stockings, fitted sweaters, turtlenecks – the more the better. To avoid a bulky-looking outfit, keep your base layer thin yet warm. Dedicate a shelf/drawer in your wardrobe for all your layering essentials so that dressing up becomes quick and easy.

2. Stock up on scarves
Scarves are not only super cozy but also super stylish. You can throw a fun scarf over any outfit and style it in so many different ways. Pick out 2-3 scarves in shades that will go with most of the outfits in your wardrobe. (Checkered prints are our current favourite!) Blanket scarves are one of the coolest trends this season, with many celebrities sporting this chic look.

3. Invest in a pair of multi-purpose boots
As a mom, you don’t always have time for a dress-change in the middle of the day. That’s why it helps when you have a look that can flow effortlessly from day to night, with just a few minor changes. Look for a pair of comfy boots that are perfect for both school-runs and date nights.

4. Flannel shirts are your new best friend
Classic, comfy and cute – that’s how we’d define flannel shirts. They can be easily paired with jeans or leggings. You can even wear them under a light sweater with your collar sticking out. And they’re a great way to add some colour to your winter wardrobe!

5. Look for cute chunky cardigans that can be thrown over most clothes
You can never have too many of this cold-weather staple! When it comes to chunky cardigans, look for neutral colours that can be paired easily with other items. The great thing about chunky cardigans is that they don’t have to be form-fitting. The looser the better! They’re also great for layering and look oh-so-stylish.

6. Feel brand new with a warm, oversized coat
What is it about a fancy new coat that makes us feel shiny and new? Invest in something that’s warm, long-lasting and easy to match with your outfits. The trend this season is long, wrap-around coats that go past the knees. However, at the end of the day, you need to pick something that looks great on you and works best with your lifestyle.

7. Remember: leggings/jeggings go with most outfits
Find a good pair of leggings/jeggings and never let them go! Pair them with your cardigans, wear them under dresses and skirts or even wear them under a pair of flowy pants for extra warmth. Blacks, greys and blues are some of the colours that will usually work best with most outfits.

8. Get the perfect all-purpose tote bag
When you’re a Mom, you need the kind of magical bag that Mary Poppins carried. But since that’s not totally realistic, a tote is the next best thing. We adore large totes in shades of browns or grays that can be worn with any outfit and are perfect for both day/night.

9. Overalls are the perfect mix of comfort and style
Moms can have fun too! When comfort and style meet in the middle, the result is a great pair of overalls. Keep warm by wearing a cute sweater/turtleneck underneath and cover up with a coat on top.

10. Build a capsule wardrobe
If shopping for fall/winter clothes stresses you out, don’t worry. Try building a capsule wardrobe aka a mini wardrobe that’s both versatile and timeless. Simply shop for a few classic pieces in neutral colours that can be mixed & matched in a variety of ways so you can wear them over and over again.
