Motherhood is not just about raising a child, it is about unlearning, evolving, and consciously choosing a different path. For Unnati Prajapati, this journey has been shaped by her own upbringing and the world she is navigating today with her son.
Born in Mumbai and now living in Mehsana, Gujarat, Unnati shares how her roots have helped her become a confident and independent mother. Her story is not about perfection, but about showing up every day with intention, awareness, and love, while raising a 6-year-old boy who is learning what it truly means to be kind in todayโs world.
How has your upbringing shaped your motherhood?
My upbringing has shaped me into a confident and independent person and mom.
What is one recent moment that made you realize heโs growing up?
Recently, when I was making breakfast and was getting late for work, he said, โMumma, you teach me how to make breakfast so I can make my breakfast and you can go for work.โ
How do you raise a boy who feels safe expressing emotions?
I always say to my kid, itโs okay to cry. Everyone cries. There is nothing like boys and girls. Mumma and papa do everything together. Mumma cries, papa cries. It is completely okay to share your feelings with us.
What is one real struggle your son is facing right now?
My kid is feeling lonely while playing at home as he is a single child. He always asks for a brother, but itโs not possible for me right now. So me and my husband always give him company while playing. We take him to the garden every evening. We also made a group where all single moms with their kids go for picnics or outings.
What does mom guilt look like for you at this stage?
I feel bad for his screen time. With work and house responsibilities, I canโt give him as much time as I want. But still, me and my husband manage our work with his schedule.
What is one parenting pattern you are consciously changing?
Iโm trying my best not to put study pressure on him. Heโs just a kid, he will take his time, unlike how my parents did with me.
What helps you stay connected with him despite busy routines?
After coming back from school, we share our daily routine. What he did and what I did. We both take turns to share our thoughts.
What worries you about raising a boy today?
Yes, even boys are in danger these days. I have trained my kid to change clothes and how to use the washroom early. Good touch and bad touch was taught early.
What is a recent moment that made you proud of the person he is becoming?
In our society, a dog gave birth to seven puppies, and he regularly visits them with rotis and milk. He even bought some dog biscuits for them with his papa. He says they are my friends now, itโs my responsibility to feed them.
What feeling do you want him to remember from his childhood?
I want my kid to remember how precious he is for us. Right now heโs still too young to remember, but soon heโll learn with time.
Unnatiโs story is a quiet reminder that raising a boy today is not just about strength, but about softness too. It is about allowing them to feel, to express, to care, and to grow into kind human beings. Between the guilt, the rush of everyday life, and the constant balancing act, what truly stands out is the intention behind every small choice she makes as a mother.
Because in the end, it is not the big milestones, but these everyday lessons, shared moments, and emotional safety that shape a childโs world.
Every motherโs journey is real, raw, and worth sharing. If you have a story that could comfort or inspire another mom, we would love to hear it.
