The Phase of Motherhood No One Prepares You For

Motherhood looks different for every woman.. BBut there are threads that quietly connect so many journeys. For Vinisha Mehta, a 35-year-old mother born and brought up in Mumbai, life has taken on a completely new meaning since welcoming her daughter, Yeshaya.

Still living in thisis fast-paced city, Vinisha shares how stepping into motherhood last year shifted everything for her. Balancing a social life, personal well-being, and the constant demands of caring for a baby is notis not easy.. BBut theythey haveve pushed her to grow.

Today, she is consciously trying to find that balance while promising herself to raise her daughter with calmnessness, intention, and deep dedication.

What part of your daughter’s personality is shining through the most right now?

She is curious, expressive, and already has a strong little mind of her own. She observes everything around her, and when she likes something, she will scream at the top of her voice to express her liking.

What is one small everyday moment that means everything to you?

One everyday moment that feels small but means everything is when she crawls toward me with excitement the moment she sees me. No matter how my day has been, that one moment makes everything feel lighter.

What has this phase of motherhood honestly looked like for you?

The early months of motherhood have honestly been beautiful but also difficult at the same time. Beyond the smiles and cute moments people see, there have been sleepless nights, moments of self-doubt, exhaustion, and learning to put someone else’s needs before my own constantly. But it has also made me stronger.

Have you felt like you were losing or rediscovering yourself in this phase?

Yes, motherhood has definitely made me feel like I was losing old parts of myself. I couldn’t do what I could have done otherwise. I’m yet to rediscover myself and hoping for a newer, stronger version of myself. Someone who is more patient and more capable than I could be.

What does your bond with your daughter feel like right now?

Right now, our bond feels like pure trust. She looks for me when she needs comfort, smiles when she sees me, and relaxes in my arms in a way that words cannot explain. It feels like being someone’s safe place, and that is a feeling I treasure every day.

When did you first start thinking about the world she will grow up in?

The moment I found out I was having a girl, I immediately started thinking about the kind of world she would grow up in. I thought about wanting her to grow up confident and fearless. So I practice affirmations with her daily.

Do you feel more protective because she is a girl?

Yes, I naturally feel more protective because she is a girl. But I don’t want protection to become fear. I want to raise her with awareness, confidence, and strength. My goal is to teach her to trust herself, speak up for herself, and feel comfortable sharing things with me.

How do you handle societal expectations or stereotypes around raising a girl?

Yes, even now people casually make comments on how girls should behave, what they should wear, or what their future should look like. Anything rooted in love and wisdom I take in, but anything based on outdated stereotypes I let go of.

What does mom guilt look like for you right now?

Mom guilt, for me, looks like wondering if I’m doing enough. If I’m giving her enough time, enough love, enough presence. But I’m learning that a happy, healthy mother is also part of giving her the best.

What do you feel when she reaches out to you with complete trust?

When she looks at me with complete trust and reaches out for me, it awakens the best feeling ever. It reminds me that love can be unconditional and instinctive. As a woman, it makes me feel stronger. As her mother, it makes me feel special every single day.

In the Quiet Becoming of Motherhood, Strength Finds You

Vinisha Mehta’s journey is a reflection of what many mothers feel but rarely articulate. The constant balancing, the quiet self-doubt, the overwhelming love, and the slow rebuilding of identity. It is not always graceful or easy, but it is deeply transformative.

Her story reminds us that motherhood is not about having everything figured out. It is about showing up, learning, unlearning, and growing alongside your child. In the middle of chaos and exhaustion, there is also connection, purpose, and a love that reshapes you from within.

Every mother’s journey holds a story that deserves to be heard. If this resonated with you, we would love to hear your story. DM us at @softsens Instagram to share your experience and become a part of our Mama Tribe.
