Motherhood looks different for every woman, and for mothers of an only child, it often carries a unique kind of closeness. In this edition of Voice of Moms, we speak with a mother whose journey is rooted in emotional presence, quiet strength, and intentional parenting.
Born and raised in India, and continuing to live here, her upbringing in a family-oriented culture has shaped the way she approaches motherhood today. Blending traditional values with emotional awareness shaped by modern life, she shares what it means to raise a son with empathy, honesty, and a strong emotional core.

How would you describe your bond with your son?
We share a very close and honest bond. He is my little companion, and there is a deep sense of trust and comfort between us.
You play many roles in his life. How do you know which one he needs in a moment?
I read his mood. Sometimes he needs a playmate or a friend, and sometimes he just needs his mom. His actions usually guide me.
How do you help him express his emotions openly?
I stay involved through games, conversations, or simply being present, so he always feels included and engaged.
What values are you most intentional about teaching him?
Kindness, empathy, respect, and emotional strength.
How do you balance setting boundaries while staying emotionally close?
I set clear boundaries, but I explain them with love so our bond remains open and trusting.
Do you ever feel pressure to be “enough” as a mom to an only child?
Yes, at times. I remind myself that being present and loving is what matters most.

What is something about your son that surprised you recently?
His emotional awareness and thoughtful questions. They show me that he is becoming his own person.
What makes you most proud of the person he is growing into?
His kindness and honesty.
Lastly, what would you say to another mom raising a single child?
You are enough. Your love and presence are more than enough.
A single child doesn’t need more things, they need more love, and you are already giving that every day.

Concluding the story
This story is a gentle reminder that raising an only child is not about filling gaps, but about filling hearts. It is about presence over perfection, emotional safety over excess, and love that shows up every single day. Through stories like these, Voice of Moms continues to celebrate motherhood in its most honest and human form.
